History

The Indian Academy of Tropical Parasitology was founded by Professor Subhash Chandra Parija, the then Professor and Head, Department of Microbiology, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical education & Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry, along with seven other members in the year 2002 .The aims and objectives of the Academy was to promote research activities in the field of parasitology, by share and exchange of knowledge, ideas, and awareness in parasitology and tropical medicine. Also to encourage the dissemination of information and new developments in parasitology for education and the betterment of the society , promote education for the advancement of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine ; and to support and promote research in parasitology and tropical medicine  amongst Medical , Veterinary , Zoology , Basic Sciences  , and all others with special interest in tropical parasitology. The membership of the academy is open to all the research workers engaged in any aspects of tropical parasitology.
